Canon Powershot SX700 HS vs. Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V – Which Camera Gives You an Edge

The camera industry has several reputable players, including Canon and Sony.

Providing excellence in photography for decades, the two companies are the favorite choice of millions of individuals. With the demand for professional cameras increasing every day, both the companies have come up with high-end devices. While Canon has produced the Powershot SX700 HS, the Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V represents the Sony family. But, which one of the two magnificent “shot” gives you an edge? Let’s find out!

Sensor

The Canon device is a CMOS type, 15.9 MP camera. The size of its sensor measures ½.3” 6.17 x 4.55 mm and light sensitivity of 3200 ISO. This is a powerful configuration for a casual photographer. However, if you are looking for more powerful sensor, the Sony CMOS type camera measures 20.4 MP. It also has a similar sensor size and light sensitivity.

When it comes to advanced sensor, the true resolution of the two cameras hit the scale at 9.7 MP. Although the true resolution is similar, there is a considerable difference in their native resolution. While the Powershot has a resolution of 4608 x 3456, the Cyber-Shot’s resolution is 5216 x 3912. Hence, Cyber-shot is a clear winner in terms of sensor.

Built and Screen

The two devices are very similar in terms of their basic build and screen. The dimension of the Powershot is 112 x 65 x 34, whereas the Cyber-Shot measures 108 x 64 x 38 mm. The Powershot and the Cyber-Shot have the depth of 1.4” and 1.5” respectively. When it comes to weight, the Canon camera measures 269 g, while the Sony device hits the scale at 272 g. Apart from this, neither of the cameras is waterproof.

In terms of screen, the two devices feature an LCD screen of 3 inches. The resolution of the Powershot is 922k dots, in comparison to Cyber-Shot’s 921k dots. Apart from this, touchscreen functionality is not present in both the devices.

Miscellaneous Features

There are several additional features in a majority of high-end cameras. When it comes to the Cyber-Shot, the camera offers panorama, HDR, 3D and GPS. None of these features are available in the Powershot. However, both the cameras have image stabilization lens.

Winner: Sony Cyber-Shot

With superiority in almost all areas of comparison, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX50V is declared as the preferable option as it gives a considerable edge over the Canon Powershot.
